Praying for your future spouse: Getting Advice

Posted on June 13, 2013

Getting advice: There are some people that are miserable in their marriages, and then there are some people that are just so ecstatically happy in their marriages. There are some people that have had horrible relationships and expect all their relationships to be happy, and there are some people that have had great relationships, and have only good things to say about the relationships they have been in.

Good Advice for Hard Times Daniel Go via Compfight

When getting advice from people about getting married or making your relationship better, be careful to whom you speak with. I have had people tell me about how hard their marriages are, and if they could do it over again they wouldn’t get married to this person, they talk about how hard the first year of marriage was, but that things are getting better now… and then there are some people that talk about how wonderful the first year was, and how things are getting better, and that if they could do it over again they would have gotten married sooner…. There are some people that talk about how disagreements almost destroyed their marriages, and some people that talk about how the disagreements made them respect and love each other more.

And so I pray

I pray that I will be careful from whom I get marriage advice, so that I don’t discourage myself or expect pain where there shouldn’t be pain. I pray that even when I speak to people that are miserable in their marriages I will learn from their mistakes and make a conscious effort not to follow what they did. I pray that my first year in marriage will be wonderful and that it will get better. I pray that even though disagreements are bound to happen, that my future spouse and I will not waste time arguing but instead we will remember that we’re on the same side and will look for solutions that will either make both of us happy, or that will show that we are willing to sacrifice for the other. I pray that my focus will always be on the good part of my future spouse, and on the good part of every relationship I’m in. And I pray that my future spouse will be wise enough to take only the advice that is sound and Godly, and I know that he will. Amen.

I would like to hear from you: Talk to me.
