I can’t remember the last time I was jealous of someone.
Don’t get me wrong, I get multiple opportunities everyday to be jealous of people, but I’ve learned how to fight jealousy.
Andy Stanley says that jealousy is being angry with God because He owes you something (paraphrase). i.e. When you see someone with that man you want to date, or that outfit you wish you could afford, or that car or house you always wanted and you start getting jealous, then you’re upset with God because you feel like God should have given you that man or that outfit or that car or that house.
How fatuous is that?!!
Why would you be angry with God for something that someone else has? Why not just ask God to give you your own?
So you want to fight jealousy? Well it’s simple, whenever you start feeling a twinge of jealousy, even a slight hint, instead of keeping those thought within yourself, you turn them into positive thoughts and compliment the person on what they have…
So instead of stewing in your jealous juices and turning into a dried out prune, you give out compliments instead. The beauty of this is that not only does voicing your thoughts release you, but the people you compliment also enjoy your appreciation (new friends whoo!!!).
It won’t be easy at first, especially if you’re not used to complimenting people, but give it a try, it really works!
Oh and don’t forget that “envy” is from the devil, and if you let those feelings live in you, then you’re letting the devil control your emotions. (Envy = Confusion James 3:16; God is not a God of Confusion 1 Cor. 14:33)
So you’re still single? It’s okay…
