Author: David Platt
These books* are “Radical!” Literally!
They take you out of your comfort zone to a place where you stop thinking about yourself and your comforts to a place where you start thinking about the selflessness that ought to be exemplified by disciples of Jesus Christ.
It’s not about getting a bigger car, or a bigger house, or a bigger church, or getting more people to attend your church, but it is about dying to self. Literal and figurative death!
With chapter titles like “There is no plan B” and “Living when dying is gain” the author is not ashamed to tell us to endure hardness for the gospel. Radical:Taking back your faith from the American Dream is a good read, it will get you motivated to do something different, useful and meaningful. The Radical Question is a short read- pretty much all you have to answer is- is God worth it to you…And the answer ought to be yes…because as the author says eloquently: the cost of discipleship is great, but the cost of non-discipleship is greater!
Good read, good book!
My Concerns
- Just because many are called to third world countries does not mean that all are called to third world countries, there are people who need salvation that live in America and have “great lives.” As long as people do not ignore the “mission fields” are not in their neighborhood.
- P.8 it talks about Christ saying He had no place to lay his head, meant that Christ was homeless- Christ was not homeless, there are many places in the Bible where it talks about “the house” where Christ and his followers resided- and that people would hear that He was in “the house”…there is a lot more to say about that, but Christ was not poor…even though it may make us feel better to think so…
