Can you make up for lost time?

Posted on June 16, 2015June 15, 2015

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about time. Often times when things go badly and then they start going well, people talk about making up for lost time. For example, Job in the Bible, people may often say that he made up for all he lost, that he doubled everything he lost. But I often think about women that lose children. They never just shrug and say “well we’ll just have another one.” Because once something is lost, it’s lost.

When friends stop speaking to each other out of anger, when they reconnect, they may say they want to make up for the lost time, but is it really possible.

Perhaps it is better (in the words of my husband) to just be peacemakers. Because time is one of those fleeting things. It’s always going, and if we’re not using the opportunity to do all we want to do, we can’t “make it up.” All we can do is do the best with what we have left.

I pray that we all make the most of the time we have left, because in the end, our lives are not as long as we think they are.

Teach us Lord to number our days…

Long Day
