What is love? What does it mean to love someone?
Every now and then I find myself asking this question:
What is love?
I hear the word so often in the media, and with people expressing delight for random things…it makes me wonder what it means. I see love expressed in the relationship of a father and daughter, where the daughter would rather be with the father than anyone else. I see love expressed in the life of a mother and child, where a mother gives her life and sacrifices everything she has to make sure this child gets the best she can give…
So I guess what I’ve come to understand is that love is sacrifice based on commitment. Love is that thing that makes us keep coming back even after we’ve been hurt, even after it seems like there’s no hope. Love is the thing that makes us let people go and hope for the best for them, because our prayer is for them to be happy and fulfilled, with or without us. Love is what motivates us to do purposeful work that may not “pay money” for many years. Love is what encourages us to give up the monotonous, meaningless life (with a steady job and steady pay) and seek purpose. Love is what gives us life and passion and hope and joy.
The two strongest forces in life are love and faith, one cannot exist without the other, but with both you can accomplish anything.
Anything.
So what are you willing to give up for love?
