I kept asking myself “What’s next?”
What is the thing that will finally give me the fulfillment that I always desired?
What was the next step on the career ladder?
How can I create a life that others admired?
I went to THE school, got THE scholarship, got THE degree…and then “What’s next?”
I’m currently listening to the Audiobook The Second Mountain: The Quest for a Moral Life by David Brooks – and he describes so much of that angst.
I thought the way out was personal achievement and individuality, so I did my best, I pursued the gold stars, I got the right mentors… but then “What’s next?”
Lately though, I’m realizing that the main thing I’ve been desiring has been community and belonging- I love my church, I love the people there. I love my husband, I love belonging to him. I love my daughter, I love being committed to her. And I love my career in marketing, I love being committed to the people I work with and being responsible for getting the work done.
If you’ve been thinking a lot about What’s next for you, I would recommend getting this book, but of course I will continue to share as I learn from it.
